Yesterday I met Jerome. He is a large strong man who grew up in Compton, one of the roughest neighborhoods in California. With his eyes filled with tears he asks me, how he can start serving. As I begin to tell him his next steps he says, “I want to serve because maybe I can help save a life.” This is music to my ears, because serving others for the cause of Christ is a life and death issue for everyone involved and Jerome gets it! You see, Jerome has a unique perspective on saving a life.
In the course of our conversation, he shares, for a moment, his life of being in a gang. He shows me the scars from his knife and gun shot wounds and tells me his family and friends are still living in that life. He knows that in pouring out his life to serve others, God will move on his behalf in the life of his family and friends that he left behind. God is going to use Jerome to help save lives. I can’t wait to see how He uses this big strong man with tears in his eyes to rescue people. Yesterday was a great day. I got to meet and connect with Jerome. Have a great week! Yet this I call to mind
