I had the privilege this past weekend to serve our team communion during our huddle. We stopped as one cohesive group to remember Jesus and what He has done for us and to pray for what He was going to do in others on that day. It was an incredible experience as I served them and I was moved as I relayed this story to them:
Imagine the upper room where Jesus and His disciples are about to share the Passover supper. Jesus walks in the room and surveys this messy crew who He has poured HIs life into over the past three years and He is overwhelmed with love for them. Including Judas.
Imagine what He must have been thinking as He stooped down and began washing the feet of the disciples one by one. Including Judas. Jesus was overwhelmed with love for each and every one of them. Including Judas.
There is nothing that you could ever do, nothing you could ever say or think that will ever stop Jesus from loving you. In the ultimate act of servitude, Jesus lowered Himself to serve the disciples that day and He is calling all of us to go and do likewise. Today, remember you are loved. Remember you have been rescued. Remember that Jesus came to serve and now you are called to go and do likewise. Take time today to connect with the Lord and ask Him how you might serve others. NOW] BEFORE the Passover Feast began, Jesus knew (was fully aware) that the time had come for Him to leave this world and return to the Father. And as He had loved those who were His own in the world, He loved them to the last and to the highest degree. John 13:1 (AMP)
Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.
After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. John 3:13-5, 12-15
