You are not here on earth to simply exist. You have been sent for a reason and a purpose…don’t settle for “just existing”. “Just existing” looks busy…things to do, places to go. There is nothing wrong with enjoying our lives. Where we miss it is when we stay busy at the expense of something greater – God’s call on our lives. I wonder what God would do if you laid your whole life down for Him? Go after the abundant life God means for you to have.
My desire to live and enjoy life on my terms is just that…my desire. But God spoke to my heart this morning in John 10. My life is not my own. It is His. I have been called, not just born to exist. I have been sent by God, not just hired to do a job. Oh God, forgive me for my selfishness. You promise me an overflowing abundant life. I will hang on to that promise and not pursue my own selfish desires, but follow the path you have laid out for me.
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” Oscar Wilde
“I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own sheep and my own sheep know me. In the same way, the Father knows me and I know the Father. I put the sheep before myself, sacrificing myself if necessary. You need to know that I have other sheep in addition to those in this pen. I need to gather and bring them, too. They’ll also recognize my voice. Then it will be one flock, one Shepherd. This is why the Father loves me: because I freely lay down my life. And so I am free to take it up again. No one takes it from me. I lay it down of my own free will. I have the right to lay it down; I also have the right to take it up again. I received this authority personally from my Father.” (John 10:14-18 MSG)
